April 2026

Dear Teacher,

April feels “in-between,” doesn’t it? It’s the month that carries a different type of energy. An “almost - not yet.” An expectancy, yet hesitancy. Sometimes even an exhausted energy, like a marathon runner on the last leg of their journey, pushing toward the finish line.

During this season, it can be difficult to feel present. As I reflect on my experience as a teacher, April feels like the least memorable month of the school year. I think it’s because my mind is so overwhelmed with tasks and planning in both my personal and professional life that I move through the motions without ever pausing to catch my breath.

If you can relate in some way, I invite you to catch your breath with me right now or any time in your day. Let’s take a moment of gratitude and fill in these ideas:

  • I am thankful for the sound of ____________.

  • I am thankful for the sight of __________.

  • I am thankful for the taste of __________.

  • I am thankful for the feeling of ___________.

  • I am thankful for the smell of ___________.

If you’d like to hold onto this moment for a little longer, feel free to write these statements somewhere with today’s date written as well. You can repeat this exercise anytime you’d like to feel a little more present.

In her book, All Along You Were Blooming, Morgan Harper Nichols writes, “Living in the moment is learning how to live between the big moments. It is learning how to make the most of the in-betweens and having the audacity to make those moments just as exciting.”
