Expressing Gratitude
“If you fail to carry around with you a heart of gratitude for the love you’ve been so freely given, it is easy for you not to love others as you should.” ~ Paul David Tripp
Expressing gratitude is so powerful. When we write or speak words of thankfulness, it immediately uplifts the environment we are in, even if just for a moment. We may appreciate others and think about this often, but without sharing this appreciation, it’s like a song that is never sung. Invite more light and love into our homes, schools, and communities by intentionally naming your gratitude today.
Here are some ideas to express gratitude:
(These could be easily adapted for students to use in their own daily gratitude.)
- Write a quick thank-you message on a sticky note.
- Thank a colleague for their creative ideas.
- Thank the school chef for providing meals for students.
- Take time to write a letter to someone who has been supportive to you recently. Share specific details about how their support has made you feel.
- Thank your students for just being at school today.
- When you see something awesome, say something awesome!
- Take the time to thank a student and explain why their words or actions meant so much to you.
- Thank the school custodian for all they do for the school, seen or unseen.
- Think of one person who you think receives the least amount of gratitude during the day. Find something meaningful to thank them for.
Day #16: Think of a family member you’re thankful for.
Action Item: Tell them
