Called to the Classroom: Daily Reflections for Educators
Discussion Guide
Thank you for inviting the messages from Called to the Classroom: Daily Reflections for Educators to be part of your team’s growth and development. It is my prayer that God would use these reflections to inspire hope, renewal, connection, and strength in a deeply personal way throughout your school year.
Ideas for Use
Called to the Classroom is now in hundreds of classrooms across the United States, and I’ve been honored to hear how many school teams are using this resource together. Below are a few examples of how school leaders have creatively integrated this devotional resource into staff culture and professional growth:
Brief daily devotions as a staff (a few minutes each morning)
Weekly staff devotional time (before school, during a staff meeting, or as part of professional development)
Monthly check-ins “Choose one reflection that stood out to you most”
“Coffee and Called to the Classroom” gathering (informal and relational)
Virtual format for those with busy morning schedules (weekly or monthly)
Whole-staff or small-group devotionals flexible scheduling
Devotional book clubs (weekly or monthly)
Staff personal reflection for individual use
A weekly email/newsletter prompt connected to that week’s readings
The Structure
Called to the Classroom includes 180 daily reflections, one for each instructional day of a typical school year. This guide organizes those reflections into 36 weeks, with 5 reflections per week. Each week includes discussion prompts designed to support spiritual and personal reflection, strengthen staff culture, and encourage meaningful conversation. Please feel free to adjust the pacing, weeks, or questions as needed to best fit your school’s context and schedule.
Discussion Lenses
Each week’s prompts are organized through the following lenses:
1) Faith – Focusing on who God is and how He is present in our work
2) Personal Reflection – Focusing on identity, mindset, and growth as an educator and individual
3) Community – Focusing on staff culture, team unity, and the students and families we serve
